Amyris Essential Oil's Hidden Strength: It's a Natural, Powerful Antioxidant

With antibiotic resistance on the rise, nature’s medicine cabinet is under the microscope—and one underappreciated essential oil is turning heads. A lab-based study published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease investigated the antimicrobial potential of Amyris balsamifera essential oil, a woodsy oil often called “West Indian sandalwood.”

Researchers tested Amyris oil against multiple multi-drug-resistant bacterial and fungal strains collected from clinical settings. The results were striking: Amyris oil showed strong antibacterial and antifungal properties, particularly against E. coli, Pseudomonas, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus niger. The oil also demonstrated impressive antioxidant activity, which may further enhance immune defense.

These findings suggest Amyris oil could play a valuable role in holistic wellness—especially as a gentle, natural alternative for minor skin infections or immune support.
